I was walking through a 3rd grade classroom in March and had a student come up to me and ask, "Can I eat lunch with you?" I thought about it for a moment and, realizing that she was the first student who point-blank asked me to eat with them, I accepted the offer. I contact the teacher to make sure it was ok and set up a day the following week to come and eat with the student. It was the highlight of my day! During lunch we discussed all kind of topics including what it's like to have younger siblings, the best types of donuts, favorite things to do at recess, and gymnastics moves that everyone at the table could do. It was a pretty well-rounded conversation! I'll be looking forward to doing more of these visits in the future.
