For the last couple years I have been invited to share at the Gear Up Iowa Conference which focuses on creating a college-going culture in school districts. This year I asked our high school counselor Dan Lopez if he would like to present at the conference. Not only did Mr. Lopez accept the offer, he had the brilliant idea of bringing nine of our high school students so they could share their story of how our school district has helped them to develop a plan for post-secondary education. The kids did great and the audience loved hearing their stories! Furthermore, the students indicated they learned a lot from the experience, and gained confidence through speaking in front of a room full of adults!
